Death Sworn

Death Sworn - Cris Dukehart, Leah Cypess Well, I finished Death Sworn by Leah Cypess today, and I really liked it. I got it as a recommendation for liking [bc:Shadow and Bone|17658892|Shadow and Bone|Leigh Bardugo|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1369818504s/17658892.jpg|15093325] and [bc:The Pirate's Wish|18138877|The Pirate's Wish (The Assassin's Curse, #2)|Cassandra Rose Clarke|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1372540770s/18138877.jpg|21383294]. I feel like it really held up as being similar in tone and content to those series, but that isn't to say the stories are the same.

It's pretty obvious at the end of the book that this is apparently the first in a series. It has enough closure to the story to make it a satisfying enough read on it's own but there are quite a few dangling plot threads that I can only assume will be picked up in following books.

I guess this would fall into the category of young adult fantasy. It has some light romantic themes but thankfully is lacking in the endless pages of angst ridden longing and insta-love. To which I can only proclaim, Hurrah! I'm looking forward to the next book.

Sensual Phrase, Vol. 1

Sensual Phrase, Vol. 1 - Mayu Shinjo Well, well... Sensual Phrase is a little on the naughty side. It's not repulsively graphic but it's definitely got a lot of teenage angst and hormones going on. I think I probably should have known that by the title alone. I liked the first volume, good thing I guess; since I've already bought almost the whole series.

No time is wasted getting Aine would be lyricist; and rock star Sakuya together. In fact it's a bit too fast for me and I wish a little more time had been taken with it but it is what it is. I knew it had to be a bit older than I first thought because they use both a pager and a tape recorder in one part of the story. After checking it I saw that it was originally printed in 1997 in Japan and got its english translation in 2004.

The story looks promising enough and I already have them so I'll continue reading this series.

Demon Love Spell, Vol. 1

Demon Love Spell, Vol. 1 - Mayu Shinjo So freakin' cute. I just smiled the whole way through this one. I want a pocket sized demon boy of my own to play with.

City of Heavenly Fire

City of Heavenly Fire - Cassandra Clare I enjoyed this, but I felt that it suffered just a tad from sort of being split the way it was. About half of the book was the end of this story and about half of it was set up for the next series of books. The story pretty much reaches it's climax about half way through and the rest of the book is epilog making it feel just a little too long for the content. It's still one of my favorite series and I am looking forward to the next set of books.

Batman and Robin Vol. 4: Requiem for Damian (The New 52) (Batman & Robin)

Batman and Robin Vol. 4: Requiem for Damian (The New 52) (Batman & Robin) - Peter Tomasi It's an ok collection. These are pretty much a bunch of one-shot stories of Batman interacting with people after Damian's death. How he deals with it, or doesn't as the case may be. There is just a very small amount of underlying story with Damian's friend Carrie. The first no text story and the last one when Nightwing come to visit were the best for me.

The Rose Garden (Audible Audio)

The Rose Garden (Audible Audio) - Susanna Kearsley, Nicola Barber This is a beautifully written romance. It could probably be considered a clean romance as there are no graphic descriptions of sex in it. The story is told in two time periods throughout the book. My only complaint is that the main character's romantic interest isn't really given a lot of time in the book, to the point he almost feels like a secondary character. Would have liked to know him better. Still the writing style is so compelling and it flows so well I almost don't care about those little things. I've picked up another book by this author that I'll be looking forward to reading sometime soon.

The New Avengers, Vol. 4: The Collective

The New Avengers, Vol. 4: The Collective - Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato Jr., Steve McNiven This ones not as good as the previous volumes but it's ok. Seems to tie into the House of M story that I haven't read so I guess I didn't get that much out of it. I'm was also pretty indifferent to the S.H.I.E.L.D stuff but I guess it's a lead into the Civil War storyline for the next volume.

The Woodcutter

The Woodcutter - Kate Danley This was a really nice refresher for me. I enjoyed it but it did get a little long feeling at the end in the last three or four chapters. It's good and has some original twists to it. I really liked that the story was told from the Woodcutter's point of view and I kind of like the way you're just kind of thrown into the story with this one. It lets you discover the world as the action happens instead of bogging you down it tedious details.

Oh, and I had the Audible Audiobook which I would guess was pretty standard quality. The narrator didn't wow me, but I didn't want to strangle her either. I will say I wish they would have gone with a male because it would have added to the mood.

New Avengers Vol. 3: Secrets and Lies: Secrets and Lies v. 3

New Avengers Vol. 3: Secrets and Lies: Secrets and Lies v. 3 - Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch, Frank Cho Well, I'm really enjoying this run of comics and the best part is that I won't have to wait for the next part of the story to be released. *Runs off to get the next volume now...

New Avengers Vol. 2: The Sentry: Sentry P. 1

New Avengers Vol. 2: The Sentry: Sentry P. 1 - Brian Michael Bendis, Steve McNiven Who is the Sentry? I don't remember ever coming across this character before. I liked it! The twist made for an interesting little story and I like the nostalgic feel of it. There are still subplots going on and I need to find out what happens next...

New Avengers, Vol. 1: Breakout

New Avengers, Vol. 1: Breakout - Brian Michael Bendis, David Finch Well, I haven't read an Avengers comic in quite some time. Ok, I did read that horrible Ultimates thing but I'm trying to forget about it. I pretty much buy any graphic novel that falls below the $5 mark for my kindle, and this was something I picked up that way. I really liked it. There were several sub plots going on that were really interesting. I'm actually thinking I might go ahead a pick up the next volume in this run and see how it goes.

X-Force: Sex and Violence

X-Force: Sex and Violence - Christopher Yost;Craig Kyle Kindle Edition reprints the limited series X-Force Sex and Violence #1-3 and also X-Men Annual 2001. The mini series has a pretty shallow plot but I really find the art in the book to be fascinating. I'd love to see this art paired with a really good story. If we could give half stars I probably would have rated this 2 1/2 stars instead of three. I find the Annual to be a pretty strange inclusion but I guess it's because there are some scenes with Wolverine and Domino flirting with each other and I guess that's the theme of this collection anyway.

Captain Atom, Vol. 1: Evolution

Captain Atom, Vol. 1: Evolution - J.T. Krul, WILLIAMS II, FREDDIE I really would have liked to like this better. The story is just so standard and it feels uninspired to say the least. What I really didn't like was the artwork they paired the story with. It's extremely dreary and depressing, all dark and poorly defined. Not to say that I hated the artwork but it's highly stylized and it really set a depressing tone for the book. Only Captain Atom himself stands out and he really needed some colorful supporting characters to pull this off. I'd kind of like to see the next part of the story but I would never pay full price to read it. Hopefully I can pick it up at some point on the cheap, which I recommend you do as well.

Fallen

Fallen - Celeste Bradley, Susan Ericksen A decent story but made unnecessarily long by the inclusion of side stories that have little to nothing to do with the main plot of the book. One of which seems have been included for no other reason than to include gratuitous sex scenes.
